Alicia & Lewis’ Simply Stunning Wedding at The Boat House
We spent 5 minutes chatting to Alicia about her late May big day and why she chose the Boat House for her Staffordshire wedding celebration – which included an outdoor wedding ceremony…
Who proposed, where and how?
Lewis proposed during our holiday in Mexico in April 2018. How? Well, this is quite a funny story. Lewis had booked a dinner on the beach for our second night – such a beautiful, memorable setting! We had eaten our delicious 4-course dinner. The dessert arrived with ‘Congratulations’ on the plate. As Lewis looked at me, and I looked back, he must have thought “It is now or never!”. He popped the question. Believe it or not, it was perfect, jovial and everything I’d ever imagined… and more!
What were you looking for in a venue and what made you choose The Boat House?
Lewis and I were looking for a venue that screamed the WOW factor, as well as feeling that cool, contemporary and calming atmosphere. The Boat House was exactly that. The fact that we could get married outside, with the beautiful views made it completely perfect.
What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?
We were keen to ensure our day was exactly what we’d imagined, with minimalist yet effective decorations. The beauty of the Boat House is just that, it doesn’t need dressing up, the venue does all the talking.
The weather was kind to us on our day so we were able to have our dream wedding outside, surrounded by the grounds of Aston Marina. This is where we said our vows. We added floating
candles up the aisle, dressing of the pergola and adding finishing touches with flower arrangements attached to the aisle chairs for guests.
How did your theme flow through the rest of your day – outfits, entertainment etc…
Our groomsmen suits were black complimented with blush ties, and our bridesmaids’ dresses were finished in blush.
Our entertainment was just perfect! We had a saxophone and DJ/bongo duo for pre and post ceremony. ‘TwentyOne Events’ entertained our guests with classical RnB, with a twist, for the duration prior to the wedding breakfast.
As we moved into the evening, we hired a soul and Motown band to dance the night away too. ‘Soultown Collective’ were everything we dreamed of! It was such a cool mix of entertainment and raised the roof off the Boat House!
What catering did you opt for and why did you select the menus you did?
We offered our guests a choice of 3 starters, main and desserts from the Sapphire menu. It offered enough variety and the real thing was delicious and faultless – credit to those chefs!
What was the highlight of your day?
Honestly, absolutely everything! From start to finish, it was seamless. Our wedding planner, Nicky, made it everything and more. I will never forget what Nicky did for us, to ensure we didn’t feel any wedding jitters!
